Lockdown Dock + Desktop

Hi,

 

Ive got some macbooks that ive set up, we have just a windows domain, so i have just set these up to see the folder shares but once clicked users have to auth with their windows credentials.

 

Seems to be working okay, not sure if theres another way without having a mac server with ad intregrated.

 

Also ive set what appls and folders i want shown on the dock.

 

The macs will automatically boot into a set username, macbook 1, macbook 2 etc.

 

The account type is managed, so now installing of software etc can happen.

 

All i want to do now, is lockdown the dock and desktop so folder shares etc cannot be deleted by the person logged on as apple macbook 1, 2 and so on.

 

Is there a away to do this, or will i just have to hope the students dont delete everything?

ive currently got around 12 macs, for authentication we use admit for mac, user can login with their AD username and password, depending on how you set it up their windows network share mounts as the home folder, although we have it mounted to the desktop.

 

To set up a default dock and user profile. The presets are stored in /system/library/usertemplate. in this folder you should have subfolder such as English.iproj etc. If you encounter problems you may need to change the permissions on this folder, or as i needed to do enable the Root account, which im sure a quick google can help you resolve.

 

1. Create a new account, mine is called 'user'.
   
2. Login as 'user' and set up the account as required
   
3. Log out and login to a admin account. I advise you to keep a backup of the user template folder before doing anything else
   
4. Open Terminal and type the follwing command:
   
5. sudo cp -R /system/Library/User\ Template /System/library/User\ Template1
   
6. If prompted enter your password, You should now see a folder called User Template1
   
7. go back to terminal and type
   
8. sudo rm -R /System/Library/User\ Template/English.iproj
   
9. this will delete the systems template and you now need to copy 'users' home folder by typing:
   
10. sudo cp -R /Users/User /System/Library/User\ Template/English.iproj
    

 

These will take effect immediately, so create your self a new account see if thats what you wanted.
