Universal Remote Controls

Hi,

 

We've got several different brands of projectors, amplifiers and DVD players scattered across campus.

 

In the event of a tech call out, finding the correct remote control for the room can be a right pain, especially as so many of them get left in rooms and go missing.

 

I'm considering getting a few universal remotes to keep IR codes for several devices on. I've got a One for All Kameleon at home which works well but it's a giant and can only store 8 codes.

 

I'm looking for a reasonably priced remote that could store codes for around 12 different devices. Also is there a way to flash all the codes across from one remote to another? Quite terrified of the idea of sitting through the 'learn' process 12 times x however many remotes. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Dunno but why no look at a device that plugs into your laptop sure the software would be able to handle more remotes.

Logitech Harmony remotes are great. They connect to a PC, you tell it make/model and it programs its self . If they don't have the device you can still self-program, but I haven't found a device that it didn't work with. There's a huge range of devices. We tend to use the 300i which is around £25, but they can cost up to £250

A solid recco, I personally have a logitech harmony One unit at home, absolutely superb unit....the software/set-up is a doddle with most appliances auto-configuring, even when my dipstick brother stepped on (and cracked) the LCD screen, Logitech have sent me a direct replacement (even letting me keep the old unit for spares etc)

Not sure how big your systems are but have you ever thought of investing in a control system? Crestron, AMX or something like that? Just a thought
