Printer Control

Does anyone know of a way, or a peice of software that can be setup in a classroom that whenever a pupil prints, a message pops up on the Teachers PC asking if its ok? In other words pupils print jobs will sit in a queue until approved the the teacher.

Papercut has queue control, controlled through a web browser.

 

It doesn't have the pop up feature AFAIK, but to be honest I think this could be counter productive. If they whole class are meant to be printing them it would generate a lot of pop ups. It could also be used to annoy the teacher.

 

If the teacher has asked the class to print then they should be able to keep and eye on the que.

Yup, we use the papercut print control. You can't have a different one for each printer though and they all show up in the same list, but you can filter for what printer the teacher is monitoring. I can't trust some staff here to always remember to apply the filter and thus wouldn't want to open it up to everyone/all printers until papercut improve this. Works well for our IT rooms though. Even just the kids knowing that it needs to be authorised cuts down on the rubbish that goes through so often the teacher doesn't even need to cancel useless jobs now.

I agree they should, but trouble is they don't. We have a few teachers that do, mostly the ones who teach ICT but i have never seen any ofther teachers even look at whats coming out of the print queue let alone bother to work out who might have sent it.
