Copying hard drive contents, access is denied

My mind has gone blank

 

Basically got several small old hard drives with data on (Including in some cases Windows XP installs from the machines they came out of!) that I need to dump into a folder on my machine, so I just select all and do a copy into required folder.

 

Which works fine until it finds a locked file that gives an 'Access is Denied' message then stops the whole copy process!

 

Any way to just make it skip such files?

if you right click on the folder, and go to security tab > advanced > ownership and select yourself (administrator) to take full ownership, apply this to sub files and folders *check box

 

failing that, boot the machine into a linux distro, mount the volume *external hard disk* and copy the files that way, then it cancels out all of the windows permissions.

As James says - and use Robocopy to pickup from where it got to so your not having to re-copy all the data again

 

or VX Copy will work as well
