Flash and Shockwave wont register .ocx files

Recently, Flash (ver 9 activex) and Shockwave (ver 8.5) have stopped installing properly.

Whether its done through an msi and group policy or just a local install it does it. It does say installation succeeded but brings up this error (or logs it)

"Error 1904.Module C:\WINDOWS\system32\macromedia\flash\flash9.ocx failed to register. HRESULT -2147220473. Contact your support personnel"

The stupid thing is, NOTHING has changed, it used to work, now it doesnt. makes no sense

Having much the same issue here since a problem with an AD server screwed up installs for a few PC's and removed Flash... when it reinstalled it just failed to work properly..

Still wrestling with the problem now but strangely a local install of the latest flash seems to work.

Have you tried uninstalling any previous versions first?

Bizarrely I went through the whole remit...

did a GPO reinstall (which actually mean't that ALL pc's then started hitting problems 8O ), then tried the uninstaller tool, reinstalling the flash 9 version I had, etc..

Then i realised there was probably a new version out and this could be a winxp patch issue... Seems I may have been right..

I grabbed the latest MSI from Adobe (still feels weird saying that :p ) and then told GPO to uninstall the old one and install the new one instead... Seems to have done the trick so all good.

Would not mind a copy of the latest msi if you could.

See if it is newer than mine.

Can't remember the exact build number but it was considerably higher than the version I got about 6 months ago.
