Gardinho Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Hi fellas, I have made a big mistake. I have an application server, which at the moment hosts our Room booking system. It's other purpose is to act as a VMware server. Up until recently, everything has been working fine. A member of staff asked me to add a webpage that he created to an Intranet, which I lack experience in. I tried to add it through IIS, couldn't get that working, and now the VMware server console won't open either. It just says the standard 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'. I have tried completely removing and reinstalling VMware, to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions? The intranet isn't as important as getting the VMware back up and running. Incidentally, the vmware is only hosting an XP image running some stand alone software, so it's not like it's one of our main servers or anything. But I need it working for future images. Thank you in advance for any advice.
jamesb Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 How did you try to add the page through IIS? Which port is the console meant to be running on? I'm guessing that it's port 80. If you go into IIS Management Console you'll probably find that the default site is enabled, and has stolen VMWare's port. Disable the site and see if that makes a difference. Any more information about your IIS setup and the changes you made would help diagnose faster.
Gardinho Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 Hi, Thanks for replying to my post. I tried intstalling on a different desktop PC. It appears that VMware doesn't even use IIS for accessing the console via web page. I think I must be lookng in the wrong place to fix this!
jamesreedersmith Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 The vmware stuff uses tomcat server so IIS isnt affected - if however you now have two servers providing content on the same port youll get trouble.
Gardinho Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 So it sounds like I need to run it on a different pc?
jamesreedersmith Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 No just a different port would do - what ports does your vmware run on?
