We have a stupid amount of printers in our school and when we start taking them away teachers use the excuse of 'confidential printing' & obviously SMT then take their side.

Does anyone use key fobs or cards that the teachers use when they want to print things?

Any help would be great, I can't seem to find anything on the forum about it.

Thanks,

Nick

The newer high-end HP Mono lasers have numerical keypads on the actual printer which you can use to pin-protect documents. I recently installed a P3015dn in our staff room which comes with this functionality although noone as of yet has used it. Pin is set in the document properties when printing though (via the driver) so not really, really simple but still effective.

No idea about using cards or fobs directly with printing though would be interesting if someone has been able to do this.

When I was at uni many moons ago :) getting old you see we had mag stripe cards which had to be loaded up with print credits I'd guess you can do the same these days with rfid cards too.

We use mifare based cards - there's loads of threads on the forums about this.

We use Equitrac Express as our controlling software (and lots of Ricoh devices as the printers/copiers/etc.)
