Password Policy, What Password Policy

I have recently deployed a web based password change/reset app, which seems to be working well!! Perhaps a little to well.

 

It generates random passwords, hooks into AD with no issues, doesn't need a csv file of current users. etc etc.

 

The problem I'm now facing is that refuses to change the password due to the following error "The password does not meet the password policy requirements." Now as we're predominately a primary school, There is no policy!! I certainly don't recall setting one up, In fact i'm sure I turned it off. The kids can have passwords as long or as short as they like and there set never to expire. So I'm stuck and I have no idea where to look to either set up / turn off the password policy.

 

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 

We're running Windows 2008 and IIS7

When you turned off the strong password requirement in the Default Domain Policy did you disable the particular group policy settings ("Passwords must meet complexity requirements" and "Minimum password length" ect) or set them to Not Configured?

 

I only ask because I have run into this problem with other group policy settings where the Local Security Policy has overridden the Group Policy. If you explicitly Disable the settings in Group Policy the client will respect these settings.

Having checked the settings and the polices everything is as it should be. I have even been on to the suppliers of the app and their stumped too.
