synaesthesia Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Any news on why Roy left this position?
roycowper Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Any news on why Roy left this position? I did try to PM you when you originally asked mate but apparently I haven't posted enough in the forums to be allowed to send PM's!! It's absolutely nothing to do with the school, I've been at the school for a good number of years and enjoy working here. I have a new position elsewhere that I am moving to and therefore had to tender my resignation.
synaesthesia Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Ah gotcha Could you give a little background on the position from your unique point of view? May be very useful for prospective applicants! (myself included)
hillskill Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 has the salary already been subject to pay and benefits review?
roycowper Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Ah gotcha Could you give a little background on the position from your unique point of view? May be very useful for prospective applicants! (myself included) The school is a normal 11-18 secondary with approximately 1200 students on role including the Sixth Form. There are approximately 500 workstations in total spread across 4 buildings. There are 8 dedicated PC based IT Suites and 1 Apple Mac suite, with other smaller banks of PC’s in certain classrooms. The PC’s are all Dell and run Windows XP with a view to moving to Windows 7 in the near future. The Mac Suite currently runs OS X 10.5 but the school is licensed for 10.6. Active Directory based authentication with one of the DC’s being Svr2K8, the others 2k3. The Apple Macs also authenticate with AD using Apples magic triangle Open Directory combination. The school is a newly built PFI school; the cabling infrastructure is all Cat 5e with 8 core fibre between the switch cabs. The switching is 3Com POE 5500 Enterprise Series and a 3Com telephone system. Every member of teaching staff has their own laptop issued to them and almost all the teaching rooms are equipped with Smartboards. SIMS.net is the management system, lesson monitor for registers etc. The school is currently implementing the RM Kaliedos VLE. We use an AD integrated Smoothwall box for web filtering and Exchange 2007 for email. Is that the kind of info you were after? 1
roycowper Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 has the salary already been subject to pay and benefits review? It's an interesting question since I was due to be hit pretty hard by the P&B review but it's been advertised on what I would consider to be the correct scale.......
hillskill Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Given the massive changes most IT school people had had to their saleries pending the review I would say the salery offered here means nothing unless they can confirm it has been subject to good old P & B!

Interesting that the school never opted for student wireless laptops- I suppose this isnt needed when you have a new build.
synaesthesia Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Many thanks Roy, much appreciated

For that you would have to speak directly to the school about it.
GrumbleDook Posted September 13, 2010 Author Report Posted September 13, 2010 A quick *bump* on this ... closing date is soon.
roycowper Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 The information I get from SLT is that this post has already gone through the review procedure and therefore will not be subject to it but if you want clarification, your best bet is to contact the school directly as GrumbleDook says.
