Currently have shadow copies running on a server and they have definately created ok but i can't access them from a client windows 7 PC or from the server using the UNC path - both say no previous versions exist.

Also tried a windows XP machine and the previous versions tab doesn't appear at all then!

Any ideas?

Might be daft but have you installed the previous versions client?

There's a client for it now? *bangs head on the wall*

I belive so, on my network I have the client MSI deployed VIA gpo. Although all my clients are win xp. I'd be interested to know of you still have to do this in windows 7 as I'm looking to upgrade soon.

Unfortunately I can't help you then as I've only had experience of this with server 2003 and windows xp.

I'm sure someone will be along to answer this shortly :)

The plot thickens, the volumes im attempted to use shadow copies on are iSCSI volumes, this was previously the case under server 2003 and it worked fine but now in 2008R2 the iSCSI volumes volume shadow copies won't work. Interestings...

have you tried logging on as a domain admin and seeing if you can remotely then as i think that you can configure access to the previous version tab via GPO's.

Are you trying to access previous versions that were created under server 2003? If so could this be the issue? Try (if not already) to create a new set in 2008.

This is just guess work so feel free to ignore me :)

The previous versions are all newly created since the Server 2008R2 install

I've logged on as domain admin on a 32bit and 64bit win7 machines in an attempt ot access them, i can see the previous versions tab on the volume which is local to the server on XP machines but not on the iSCSI volumes, definately seems to be an iscsi/server2008R2 issue i think, not finding anyone with the same problem yet though in my mad googling
