Reinstalling TCP/IP Protocol Driver

Got a problem with the Bursars machine which has lost its TCP/IP Protocol Driver and its IP Network Address Translator. Anyone know an easy way to reinstall these with out rebuilding the machine?

Drop to a command line - [ I take it you are using XP ] type:

 

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

I have already tried that mattx. When I go into Devic Manager and select hidden devices and then look under Non-Plug and Play Drivers the IP Network Address Translator and TCP/IP Protocol Driver are missing. I know this as I have checked on several other machines andthey are there.

Insert XP disc, reboot, repair?

The school doesn't have an an xp disc as the machines were built by a small local firm who didn't supply any

Just out of interest - logon to a PC with the problem and then drop to a command line and type in:

 

ipconfig /all

 

Does anything come up ?

Nothing at all.

Have your tried removing the NICs drivers [ or removing it from device manager ] - re-booting and re-installing them or a different set of drivers for the NIC ?

Did this start all of a sudden ? If so, you could try a restore.

What happens if you try and boot to a network boot disk / cd ?

Thats right and the files were still in the system32/drivers. Going to have another look this morning when I'm back in there and see what I can come up with. But I have a feeling that I'll be rebuilding the thing.

Thanks for that SimpleSi but it didn't work. I was just getting ready to rebuild the machine when I noticed that whoever had built it had left the system restore on so I rolled it back to the day before it went down and all is now well I hope. Going to run some tests on it to make sure. Thanks to all the guys who offered advice.

Thats good - now make another restore point and make a note of it somewhere just in case it happens again !!
