KWestos Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I've just installed a new patch panel, everythings fine. I've used my Fluke kit to establish that ALL connections are correct. But when I connect a particular connection to the switch, it does nothing. I've checked the connection from both ends, fine. I've used different patch leads to check the connection, fine. The outlet on the patch panel is fine as my kit indicates it. It's just when I connect it to the switch, no lights. Never had this before
Ric_ Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Perhaps the switch doesn't work? Have you tried a different switch/port?
p858snake Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Is there someone active on both ends of the cabling and has power going to it?, I've forgotten to make sure the computer had power a couple of times and had the switch light stay off for me.
SYNACK Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 How long is the cable run, not longer than 100m by any chance.
KWestos Posted September 3, 2010 Author Posted September 3, 2010 For some very strange reason, it's working now. I'll be keeping an eye on this as it makes NO sense whatsoever. Many thanks for your replies.
Kitkatninja Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 I come across something similar, we tested a new cable run (network point to patch panel) and everything checked out fine, but plugging in any device and there's be no activity. It turned out to be a fault network (RJ45) socket. -Ken
