Hello EG'ers,

in a previous role I used Sims.net and was wondering if anybody knows of a MIS suitable for a University environment. It would be used as a record/read platform rather than fully integrated. We our a small School (350 students) within a University and I am looking to incorporate our existing databases into a single application.

Ideally I'd like a platform that enables the recording of student information, staff information, attendance, admissions and a few other areas.

does anyone know of a suitable platform? I have spoken to Capitas but their Unity solution is well beyond our budget.

Thanks in advance for any and all help,

We use SITS here although personnally never really been interested in using it... We are slightly larger however @ ~25000 students at last count

By school do you mean a dept. within the university or an actual school e.g. secondary sited at a uni'?

It could make a huge difference to what software is applicable.

Hi and thanks for the clarifying question. Yes I suppose we would be classed as a Department within most Universities. Ours recently went through a restructure and has chosen to go with University > College > School structure.

From what I have seen most of the software platforms are designed for the University level. In ability and pricing... I think I might need to look at in house development to avoid the large costs.

Depending on what you want / need to get out, consider looking at Scholarpack as it's free, new to market, and open source so you could build on it. Save time and money ;)

What does the rest of the university do? I would have thought they have their own uni wide MIS or not? I worked at a large college in london and all the departments were tied into the main MIS for all info, attendance etc. plus it was part of the intranet. I can't imagine a uni' would want each 'school' to do their own thing, wont they expect you to report centrally? The source date must come from the uni' centrally surely.
