Mail and Vle problem

ok heres how its happened

 

our cisco router went down and the council came and replaced it and setup all the bits.

 

we have two networks on different subnets , there are allowed to speak via the router

 

 

our admin network is on 10.144.2.*

students is 10.146.8.*

 

prior the the router going down everything was hunky dory.

 

now you can not access the web based email using the external outside address on the student network same goes for the VLE which are both on different servers. An Internal IP address works fine , as well as the DNS Name.

 

On the main STUDENT server there is a access to the web with or without the use of a proxy server .. when i turn on the proxy i cant access web mail or VLE , turn it off and it works fine . ( proxy is hosted with the local authority)

 

All sites work fine on the Admin network ( they use the same proxy) , and from an outside address ??

 

outlook the program works fine as well .. from all computers

 

 

Any ideas ?

Routes/port forwards possibly haven't been recreated properly on the router - hard to guess without knowing exaclty how the router and servers are configured.

 

As it appears the site is accessible from outside your site and available internally (just with a diiferent DNS name) then just set up a DNS alias (on the Student subnet) with the same name as the external DNS name and use this instead

should have stated that the actual servers are stored on the students side of the network 10.146.8.* ,

the admins have there own DC and DNS server.

 

from the students network i can NOT access the mail or VLE from the full name e.g. (http://vle.school.sch.uk) , or the Public facing IP address . I can only access from the Internal Address . As soon as the proxy is removed i can access all ok ?

I would go with a DNS alias locally, you don't really want users having to go out to hit a proxy server hosted at your LA and then come back in to use the VLE, it's not sensible use of bandwidth.

i will assume i will need to make a forward lookup zone ? primary ? seconday or a stub ?

I created another primary dns zone called schoolname.LA.sch.uk and then stuck in a dns records for "vle" and "mail" pointing to the internal ip addresses.

 

Make sure web browsers are sent not to use proxy for *.schoolname.LA.sch.uk

looking these are already setup as well as me deleting and re - adding .

 

the external IP address setup for for e.g. our VLE .. should i not be able to browse this ? i can ping it fine .. but with the proxy enabled i cant browse at all

I created another primary dns zone called schoolname.LA.sch.uk and then stuck in a dns records for "vle" and "mail" pointing to the internal ip addresses.

 

Make sure web browsers are sent not to use proxy for *.schoolname.LA.sch.uk
