IP addresses

Hi - I'm having a bad day and can't get something working...I suspect i'm being thick (no agreements please - I'm fed up!)

 

Anyway,

 

I have been told my new external IP addresses (for my new router) are :

 

Subnet: 212.118.125.8

Mask: 255.255.255.248

Computer Range: 212.118.125.10 to 212.118.125.14

Broadcast: 212.118.125.15

 

The internal IP of the router is 10.113.121.15

 

If I go to What Is My IP Address - Shows Your IP Address it comes up as 212.118.127.210! Is this all correct, because no matter what configuration I do, I can’t access my domain from outside, via web, VPN or SMTP!?

 

Are there any pointers you can give me at all!?

 

My gut reaction say's that i've been given duff info, but i've been around in circles so much i'm beginning to doubt myself!

By my calculations, with what you have given here.

 

Network Address: 212.118.125.8

Mask: 255.255.255.248

IP Address Range: 212.118.125.9 - 212.118.125.14

Broadcast: 212.118.125.15

 

I would guess that your ISP is using 212.118.125.9 at their end and should be your routers default gateway, hence you have 10-14 available to you. So it looks to me like this information is correct.

 

Why you get the different IP probably depends upon the configuration of your ISPs network. I also get a different IP address but my ISPs network is NATed several times before we see the outside world.

 

Things to check for the incoming connection:

 

* From outside can you ping your IP address? (Assuming your router is set to respond)

* From outside tracert to your IP address and see what you get.

* Your router is likely to be a NAT device, do you have port forwarding rules for the various services you want to host?

* Does your ISP firewall incoming connections? Have the necessary ones been opened up for you?

Thanks for your thoughts, I got it sorted though...It was my ISP mucking something up, or at least thats what i think, one minute it didn't work and the next it did (without me changing anything!)

it there any case where your IP can exist in other PC ???
