Xcopy oddity

In order to clear a USB drive I xcopied the contents to a folder on my C drive. All the files copied across so I went ahead with diskpart to make a bootable USB for a Windows 7 install.

 

Now going back to the C drive I can't see the folder I created. A search from the Start Menu found the folder, with all it's files etc, but the folder is not displayed in the C: directory neither in the window nor in the tree. Why is the folder hidden?

I have seen something similar to this when I used ROBOCOPY to backup files from a Windows 7 laptop to an external USB hard drive. Certain folders were hidden. At the time, I made a wild guess that Windows was hiding the folder as some kind of security measure, but looking back that doesn't seem very likely.

If it is security I'd like to know how it's done, could come in handy. On the other hand now that I know it's hidden, I ask myself, how many other folders are there likely to be that I've previously copied and thought hadn't worked?
