Only affects "a small number of PowerEdge server motherboards sent out through service dispatches" according to Dell, so this could only affect you if your R410 has had the MB replaced under warranty. Dell have also said they know exactly who is affected and will contact them indiviually by post.

I can understand this with mp3 players, flash drives and the like....hell, maybe even a consumer laptop image from random cheapo firms..

 

But firmware on a rackmount server? WTF?

Well servers tend to host services for a large amount of people. They might want to disrupt the service.

I could have phrased that better. I meant:

 

"I can understand this happening on relatively inexpensive consumer hardware with poor quality control, but rackmount servers tend to provide critical services for possibly hundreds of people at a time - how the hell did the Dell QA process allow this to happen and/or are their margins so low they're using shady firmware suppliers?"
