Check_mk

Hey Everyone!!

Long time no type. I'm trying in vain to get nagios and several plugin's to work. I found check_mk with it's full install of everything i need to go onto the ubuntu 10.04 i have installed and got started. Problem is when it's installing it uses a shell script (which i have no experience with) it's trying to go to a site to download and install RRDTool but the connection is being refused. I have managed to go to the same URL and download the tarball but dont know the first thing about altering the shell script to get it to look on a local drive instead of online. Can anyone help!!! Please??

Does it say why the connection is refused? And are you behind a proxy?

 

I always have to add http_proxy and ftp_proxy details in /etc/environment on ubuntu to get wget working through our proxy

No nothing. I am behind a proxy but can go to the same address in firefox and download the tarball????? will try again see if i can get anymore info for you.

nope all i get is

i suppose what i need is an alternative for the script to replace the "wget" command to ask it to look in a local directory instead. any ideas?? Edited July 14, 2010 by jonpenn101

Ok i found the problem. It was "wget" it has it's own proxy commands in it's config, once i had altered these it worked fine.

Installed Ubuntu 9.10 and the installations went without a hitch, nagios with check_mk and all the trimmings working great. Would like a little assistance though if anyone has any experience, It would be most appreciated.

Anything in particular? Don't use check_mk, but we've been running Nagios for years.

Thanks for your reply but i seem to be getting it sorted now. I decided to use SNMP to help me get the bits i needed. I can now see the activity on a network interface for a windows xp machine just struggling with a server 2003 one now!!

In the spirit of giving you another interesting project....

 

Cacti ( http://www.cacti.net ) is a good way of graphing trends and a great tools for identifying system and network bottlenecks and a decent partner to Nagios.

Easier. Tracking down relevant mibs for niche hardware can take a while, but it's quick to get the basics running.
