Simple SMB Share not working since reboot ??? Confused

We have a Canon photocopier that has the option to scan to a network SMB share.

 

It has been working for 2 years, but since updating a SCSI card driver and rebooting the server last night it now cannot reach the server? All other shares are fine in the school.

 

It simply scans to "\\NAS\Scanned Documents"

 

I have set the photocopier to scan to another server with a test share and all is working fine, so I guess it must be the NAS server. Its allthough the firewall is on or something (its not). What has to be enabled/selected/ticked to get a worstation in this list please?

 

When I click BROWSE on the photocopier it list lots of other servers and workstations but does not show NAS. when I manually type in NAS it times out.

 

Anyone please got any suggestions????

 

(ive tried creating a new test share on the NAS with everyone permissions and also tried via IP address)

has the ip address of the nas changed due to the reboot? could be wins name lookup causing the problem.

both IPs are both still the same and are correct in DNS.

 

In WINS, the NAS is marked as "Released" is this correct?

When setting up the link to the share (to our nas server) on the photcopier, in "SMB Setup" there is a serach button, we can search and first see out domain and then when we browse into our domain we can then see various computers, most are servers. But NOT our NAS server?

 

What would make a workstation list itself in this SMB list please?

Why do we only see some servers and random computers??

 

We have Netbios protocol disbaled in DCHP.

We had a power outage this week and turned off all the servers in advance... On rebooting the servers the next day the photocopier can now see the shares on the NAS

If that was the first time the copier got powercycled, I suspect it was due to you restarting Samba on the copier by rebooting it.

Well........

 

NAS server went down for a day whilst the SAS Module was replaced and guess what... Photocopier can no longer see the NAS server when I browse the network with it..

Problems fixing themselves are great except when they re-occur !

 

I do not want to reboot the NAS storage server again, can anyone please suggest something I can check to get the server to broadcast itself once more?

If I browse the network from my PC I can see plenty of various devices, printers, servers, laptop but cannot see the NAS in the list of devices.

 

any ideas please? restart SMB or a service on NAS somehow?
