you have them anywhere near students? WOW! thets tempting providence - i'm suprised they havent decorated the cases with PVA and sticky paper!

They'd have to decorate me first as my "desk" is right next to the servers .. but mind you, I wouldn't put that past some of our pupils! lol ..

I'm going to jump in here and disagree vehimently to that arrangement, servers are way heavier than switches and vastly heavier than patch pannels. Your heaviest stuff should be at the bottom for safety, pulling out a 2U server at head height is asking for a serious injury. UPSs at the bottom, then servers then from the top Fibre, Cat5 pannels, switches. You can mix the switches and pannels together for cleanlyness but this will make matinence and installation much safer.

I have almost 150kgs of UPS sat at the bottom of the unit... plus a very heavy switch... - i agree on the whole with the lightest stuff at the top but i'm stuck with where the patch panels and therefore switches can go... plus heat ismore of a n issue than maintenance on the servers - in 5 years i must have been inside any server less than 5 individual times after instaling them into the rack...

Oh no, we have AirCon (just - it was installed over Easter) however, they put the AirCon RIGHT above the switch rack and where the servers are on the desk, so I'm just playing the waiting game for a leak now .. but not only that, they wonder why the AirCon blasts out Ice Cold even when turned up because it's sensor is right above all the lovely kit too .. lol ..

My problem is that Staff keep coming in complaining it's too cold (just because the rest of the school is quite warm) and turning the flippin thing off .. lol ..

I have no idea, I wasn't consulted in the process .. there were 2 heaters in situ previous, so they've obviously just gone "ooo .. there'll do"

two... i'd hide the remote!

It's one of these wall terminal remotes so there's no hiding it sadly ..

three.. when you got em coming back to move it? :D

I think the school are planning on having me move the servers and things to a different room on their own sometime soon anyway .. which will be fun!

We've already had them back once to sort a drip out that I happened to notice .. GAH!
