My220x Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Hey, I use FileZilla to FTP into my websites and everything worked fine until I upgraded to the latest version of FileZilla and now I can't logon to any FTP server. The guys over at FileZilla says its a firewall problem and I have removed FileZilla from Windows Firewall and have re-added it but still no luck. If I logon to another user account I can FTP into a server fine but just not on my user account. Any ideas?
mac_shinobi Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Completely un install file zilla , delete the file zilla directory out of program files, if on a client os then run ccleaner to clean up both temp files and registry entries ensuring to make any backups ( re run until it does not find any registry entry issues ) Restart Download the latest version of file zilla again and re install and try again If on a server OS then dont use ccleaner or delete the directory just un install as per normal and restart and try again - I have had it a few times with firefox when I have run an update and it broke it so just un installed and re installed using the full installer instead of running updates

kmount Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Eliminate Filezilla by trying another FTP Client. What happens when you try and connect, does it not list directories or not connect at all? If the former it is most likely PASSIVE mode not being on instead of active.

kmount Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 For the sake of this test it's not really a big deal which one you pick. Ones come to mind such as SmartFTP, & FlashFXP. Filezilla would be my weapon of choice though so once we know where the issue lies we'll be in a position to sort it out. Tell us what happens when you try as per my last post.

kmount Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 OK, that eliminates the client. I've just tried that IP and it works so that eliminates the server. It leaves really your PC/OS and the Router/ISP connection. - Do you have another PC on your network you can try and see if this works therefore eliminating the Router/ISP from the mix.

kmount Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Good spot there mac_shinobi. If the other user account (I assume he means windows) can do it it suggests dodgy user firewall stuff. I'd try turning the firewall OFF on your account to see if it works and then work backwards.
My220x Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 Ok, I tried connecting on a different computer on my network and it worked fine. I then disabled Windows Firewall on my user account and tried connecting and no luck so I switched to a diff Windows user account and tried and it worked fine. This is seriously strange.
