Network Accounts Unavailable after reboot...

Hi All,

 

Strange problem here which I think is a problem with Snow Leopard.

 

We've just got some new imacs running Snow Leopard (10.6.4) to join our magic triangle of existing Leopard (10.5.8) imacs that are bound to both the Mac Server (OD) and Windows Domain (AD) - this means users can login at the imacs using their AD accounts.

 

However, we've just noticed after prepping the new imacs (10.6.4) that each time we reboot, the login LED changes from RED to AMBER with the message 'Some network accounts are unavailable' and stays here without going to GREEN. To get past, I have to login as the local admin, then unbind and re-bind to the AD domain, then it works until the next reboot.

 

Then I went to Apple Support to have a look and I was surprised to find other people having similar issues, click here to read the Apple Support thread.

 

I have to say our existing 10.5.8 runs without problems and connects to AD and OD flawlessly.

 

Just wondered if anyone here is experiencing this problem as well and if they have managed to solve it?

Forgot to mention that we installed the latest updates from Apple but the problem persists.

Are you applying a Managed Setting for the Energy Saver settings by any chance?

Hi Antonio,

 

Yes we are. The imacs 'wake up' at 9.00am and go to 'sleep' at 5.00pm.

Unfortunately this didn't solve the problem.

Are your mac's dual booted? if so have you checked the time on the macs after you login as localadmin? if the time is out by 1 hour then the status light will remain amber as it can only see your OD server and not your AD server.

Nope they aren't dual booted, just running OSX 10.6.4.

This is what fixed it for me. Extending the mdns timout to 10 (I have some crappy switches here at the moment so 5 was too low). Hope that helps.

I am seeing the same problem with OS X 10.5.6. I am very new to this, so be gentle - saw Mac server for the first time yesterday!

I've fixed my problem too - OS software update. Now,to fix all those other problems...
