Too many smilies?

Are there perhaps too many smilies available for use? I've just wanted to use a particular one, and struggled to find it amidst the pages of bouncing, rolling or juggling smilies, and a rather random crocodile.

 

Considering we seem to only use perhaps 10 smilies between us, do we need so many? Alternatively, could be added to the quick list on the right, as this seems to be one of the more popular ones.

maybe ordering them by popularity would be a better suggestion then - as you appear to have changed your opinion of the random ones fairly swiftly ;-)

Maybe the answer is to learn how to write your particular favourites and then you can always use them without having to look through lists of smilies. I tend to use a lot as it is one of the only ones I can write!

A popularity sorting might be too complex, but it wouldn't take much to skim through a few dozen posts and see which ones people are using the most, then set that as the list on the right. Some of the ones currently in there I've never seen used.

 

Actually, I notice that is now in that list, so maybe it already is sorting by usage, and I just don't use them enough to change the list from default...

Not in the least. The jumping llama made me smile for about half-a-second and that was that, can't think of a single time I would use it, other than just chucking it in randomly for no reason at all.
