Rawns Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 So who dabbles in the online word of Star Trek? Not got fully into it yet but if you would like to add me, I'm Rawns - captain of the USS Malace!
Pottsey Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I play it a fair bit. Pottsey captain of the Jenquai Explorer
clarky2k3 Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 No but Im gonna give it a try! Just got All Point Bulletin on steam, looking forward to playing on it!
Rawns Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 never have whats it like ???????/ Speaking from only playing the demo and playing for 30 mins on the full version, I really like it. It does not seem as "hard core" or in-depth as some MMO's like EVA. The Space section of the game is great fun, and the 3rd person ground play is really enjoyable with phasers, nades, tech etc! It's still early days but I really enjoy all things Star Trek so I think that adds to the enjoyment factor!
CAM Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I have a trial sitting in my inbox which a COH friend gave me. I will be trying it tonight after I download it. Annoyingly the two races I most want to play are DLC!
Pottsey Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 It’s differently a casual MMO. One you dip into and out of for a few hours. If you are looking to spends hours upon hours a night like you would in some other MMO’s then STO isn’t a good choice. I estimate it would take 30 to 60hours to do all the missions in STO and hit max level.
Pottsey Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Could I be cheeky and ask if anyone wants to try the demo or is buying the full game to PM me there email. If get 5 referral’s who buy the game I get a free in game ship and other things.
clarky2k3 Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 (edited) Its currently on steam for £13.59. How much is the recurring subscription? Edited July 1, 2010 by clarky2k3 Added URL
Rawns Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 I think it's £9.99 or £10.39 a month? Slightly more then WoW. They do an unlimited subscription for £190'ish quid. You get unlimited play time forever.

Pottsey Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 A short while ago there was no end game content. Now there is a small amount but not enough for an MMO. Of the top of my head there are 4 STF’s (Special Task Force) these are missions that are impossible to do solo. You have to have 5 people and take a while. Sort of like raids in other games. There is an accolade system, basically achievements. Explore 100 sectors, get a title. Kill 500 borg get a title and bonus power. That’s about it until the season two update in July. Personally I do not like the STF’s The concept is good but the balance and fun factor is not 100% right yet.
CAM Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I'm trying to download it now but both the official servers and the officialTorrent file are slow.
Rawns Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 I had a big session over the weekend and managed to get promoted to Lieutenant Commanded 1 (Which I think is lvl 11?) Got a new ship at last too which I got to choose for 3 classes. I went down the escort route (out of escort, science & cruiser I think...). Escort class ships are smaller, have more fire power and are faster. Think they have a weaker hull though. I think I also did one of those STF missions Pottsey mentioned. Had to take out 60 ships first (and there were hundreds everywhere), next had to take out 60 cruisers, then load of mines in a mine field that was HUGE and then finally a dreadnought class ship. There were about 20 federation ships blasting it! Was awesome!!!
