Installing SIMS modules on stand alone machines

Is there a way to install some of the modules, probably more specifically Options, on a stand alone machine? Thus allowing a memeber of staff to work on them outside of the College on their own time?

Unfourtunatly not, they used to have an offline mode but from what I gather it didn't always work very well. SLG or a Terminal Server is probably the best route for allowing staff to work from home(the latter is much cheaper also).

You can run nova offline, but don't think options has that option (!)

it's highly risky, but you could try taking a machine that has been on network and run SIMS and options before.

then copy the options folder from the SIMS server (S drive in my case), take the whole path though including options folder, i wouldn't take the rest of the stuff.

put that folder and path onto the machine locally and map it as the S drive.

then just run optionsw.exe from the c\program files\sims\sims .net

it's in no way recommended and could seriously mess up your system, but on the other hand, if you only take the option folder, that's all you could lose, as once you've imported the student list in, messing around with groups should be self contained.

 

EDIT: does nova satellite include options with it?? - i should have checked first.

Apparently the answer is in KB29541 assuming it's still valid (I asked the same question o Supportnet, the response on here is nor mally quicker, however ).

 

@Jamman960 SLG doens't give access to actually USE Nova/Options.

yep, the KB will point you to the same resource that matt40k did. and it does work for options, so you can ignore my manual method which probably would have been a few folders and a licence file short! Edited July 1, 2010 by vikpaw
