Hello,

Hoping someone can help me :)

I am trying to install Office 2004 to our mac's.

I wanted to use Remote Desktop 3 for a easy install but cant find a .mpkg file on the office disk to push out via remote desktop :(

My other idea was to use remote desktop to copy the office 2004 CD to the hard drive of each mac and install from there locally ? anyone got any better idea's

On each mac there are 4 accounts,

1) Administrator

2)Teacher

3)6th form

4)Student

I do not want the Student account to have access to office.

How can i accomplish this ? When the macs where setup we created a disabled app's folder, but if i move office there to remove it from the student account it stops working on all accounts

Thanks for the help :)

Using Disk Utility you should be able to create an image of the disc that you can distribute to clients with ARD to install from (manually, per client sadly), then delete later.

As for stopping student access, do you have an Open Directory server? Application control would be provided by this within Workgroup Manager if you do.

As it sounds like you don't have an OD server though, I'm not sure how you'd go about restricting application use. ACL permissions set in the 'Get Info' permissions pane, maybe?

Hello,

Thanks for the idea of using Disk Utility to create a image of the CD, i will do this.

We are not operating in Open Directory sadly.

When the macs where set up we moved some apps to a folder called disabled apps on the teachers account desktop, so the teacher could give access back to app they might use at a later date.

Just cant figure out how to do it now though :( i move the office 2004 folder to the disabled apps and it stops it working for everyone.

Hopefully someone else might know.

Thanks Ben

As you have found out, once Office has been installed it's best to leave it where it is in the Applications folder and not rename it either.

Even if you don't have a server running OD, you can still use Workgroup Manager to manage settings on each Mac individually. All you need to do is download and install the latest version of Apple's Server Admin Tools for either Leopard or Snow Leopard depending upon what you have. More details here.

I had a sneaking suspicion that was the case, but wasn't sure enough to say anything...! ;) That's a useful thing to know!
