What is the best move filtytype for a MAc

I have been asked by a student to convert some .mpg files to be imported into a Mac.

 

Any pointers as to the filetype i should be converting to, any maybe some software for the job.

Handbrake for PC or Mac, MP4 should do. I would've thought that a Mac would play an mpg anyway... try just giving them VLC?

Cheers Ollie, the student needs to import into iMovie, i'll convert them to mp4 and see how it goes.

Handbrake and Mpeg SteamClip are both good programs for converting videos. As Ollie said, iMovie should import the MPG file without it having to be converted first.

I think there must be a problem with the original file. I can view happily on my PC, but the Mac doesn't like the original or converted file with either iMovie or VLC.

The student is going to refilm the 4 second clips with a school camera.

Defo a problem with the file. I use a mac all the time for video edits, as it handles almost every file i throw at it. Windows based software often refuses, although Serif is quite good for handling files.

Miro Video Converter is a nice little program for Mac that converts most things. I use mp4 always as the default format, if poss. Sometimes Macs give us m4v files, and clicking on them makes Adobe Media Encoder open. However, simply changing the extension m4v to mp4 always works.
