Sims Fault wont start up after logging in

Basically when we run sims (on a server used for biometrics) after entering username and password we recieve the following SIMS Fault

"The type initialier for "sims.Processes.DocumentManagement" threw and exception: System.TypeInitilizationException

 

Fault code: 1997-6977-0000

We have followed the adivce from teh capita website and reinstalled sims several times, we have also uninistalled .net framework and reinstalled and still having no look.

 

If anyone has came across this before or has any advice it would be very welcome.

Is your Document Management Server service running?

I dont think we run a document server, checked through the services and there isnt even a service there to start or restart it is only happening for this one installation

If I understand correctly you are running SIMS on a server and when you log into SIMS on this server you get the error?

 

If so you need a Document Server installed running.

everything looks normall in the event viewer cant see any anomolies.

 

We are running the sims client on a server and we get this error just after logging in. What does the document manager do, is this installed with every client install on all the workstations?

Either I am being thick or you are not explaining your setup well enough.

 

Is the SIMS SQL database installed on the machine/server you are getting this error on? Or is the database installed elsewhere and you are using the server as a client/workstation to access SIMS?

My interpretation here is your using the sims CLIENT on this server (biostore) and the CLIENT won't work.

 

Do you have a valid connect.ini and does your user have permissions to access the shared drive and/or MSSQL database?

You could be right but I see no reason it would throw up a Doc Server error if it was.

Now we are rolling..... When you ran the workstation setup did you tick more than one radio button? Choices are Workstation. SQL Server. SIMS Document Server.

 

Only the top choice on screen 2 should be chosen.

The Capita fix is this:

Run SimsApplicationSetup.exe from e.g. S:\Sims\setups folder.

Or SIMSInst.exe to make sure the workstation has been installed correctly.

On the SQL Server re-run Dbupgrade.exe to make sure there are no more upgrade files detected (e.g. C:\program files\Microsoft SQL Server\Mssql.1\MSSQL\Binn\Dbupgrade.exe) "

I would also copy the SIMS.ini and connect.ini from a working machine.

I suspect it has something to do with it being installed on a server as opposed to XP/win7. Further than that I can't help. Sorry.

i dont suppose it's a 64 bit server, or one running an unsupported version of Windows? i.e. server 2008 r2?

Within My Documents should be a My SIMS Documents folder, and within that a folder each SIMS login that has run SIMS under that network login in which an XML file is created. If SIMS can't create the folders or xml you will get this error

I've just fixed the problem in the OP thanks to this. Error started when i moved a sims server between domains.

Deleting the My sims documents folder from my documents and letting it recreate it fixed it.

 

Also, in addition to the originally described error where you cannot logon as a normal sims user, you can still logon to sims.net as SYSMAN, but when you go to tools-setups-document management server option it crashes here instead.
