wisesoft password control

I have the password control (wisesoft) software installed on quite a few schools (thanks wiseman!) at the moment to enable the teachers to be able to reset passwords for pupils.

Our LEA has recently advised that this software should not be used as it is a third party application, and could send the password details out.

 

I feel that this is being a somewhat extreme reaction to this software, and it is also easy to use for teachers, hence my reluctance to remove it.

 

Does anyone have any advice one way or the other in relation to using this software on a school network?

AFAIK it just plugs into AD to do the change, doesn't actually store anything, let alone tunnel it anywhere else.

 

However if they're set on you not using it, you could create a custom MMC to do a similar job - see here Create Taskpads for Active Directory Operations

well I would recomend that they provide a script so that the password should change to whatver day of the week it is and then change it on logon no questions asked
