Data Recovery Companies

Good Morning!

 

I need to know what Data Recovery Companies you recommend as I need one.........I've just rang Ontrack Data Recovery and they've quoted me £495 to recover some data.

 

Any other companies?

That's about the going rate, depending on media & size. I've used CBL Data Recovery before and their service was great, especially with their no recovery, no fee policy. If I remember rightly, Edugeek member Midget is involved with data recovery - if not, apologies for getting wires crossed with someone else

 

Whoever you choose - do a bit of research first. I know of one person who struggled to get their drive back from a company after receiving a quote but deciding not to pursue it with that company.

I've used Ontrack in the past, excellent service, and you can check online to see if the file you need recovering can be recovered before you agree to the recovery. It was just under a grand to get 40Gb recovered on a completely dead drive.

I was trained at Ontrack headquarters for IBAS data recovery in Epsom and to be honest they may seem expensive but having seen their clean rooms first hand, I would trust them first with my data before anyone else. The amount of investment they have put into their recovery hardware and employees is excellent.

I've used Ontrack's software too, best recovery software I've ever used.

 

PhotoREC is Free software which does the same job!

 

It is command line though. We used onTrack at PC World for the dead hard drives they were good actually.

I think before you find a data recovery company, you should try more reliable data recovery software, both shareware and freeware.

My first question would be, just how much value do you place on your data. I would say also running a recovery scan on a physically degrading drive can do more damage than good if the head crashes into a sector which contains cricital data it could be game over. Having seen disk platters which have been succumbed to head crash its frightning how deep a gouge you get in the disk platter!
