[ms office - 2007] Outlook connection alerts won't go away

Hi all,

 

got a really irritating problem on my laptop, don't get this problem on my desktop machine.

 

Every time I start up the laptop, the options for "Show Microsoft Exchange Messages", "Show Network Warnings" and "Show Network Connectivity Changes" are all enabled, despite the fact I disable them every time I login. It's really irritating me that I keep getting these pointless, unhelpful popups all the time

 

Both the laptop and desktop are running Outlook 2007 under Windows XP Pro with avast email plugin enabled. The only difference between the two is that the laptop is not connected to the domain (i.e. I don't login to the network on startup)

 

Any ideas how I can get rid of the irritating little blighters once and for all?

Great program, but unless I'm being thick, it doesn't help with this problem. My problem isn't that Outlook doesn't run at startup, just that it forgets the aforementioned settings every time it is closed

Yep, Outlook it forgets the settings every time it is closed. If someone could figure out a way to uncheck these three options (e.g. "Show Network Connectivity Changes") PERMANENTLY, they could make many people happy.

I know this is an old thread, but I found a solution and thought I share it with everyone.

 

Microsoft article 833007 (site does not let me paste link, go to "support dot microsoft dot com forward-slash kb forward-slash 833007") provides solution for controlling these through Registry.

 

It outlines instructions for Office 2003 (i.e. Office 11) but same technique works for Office 2007 (i.e. Office 12). The only difference is you must change all instances of "\11.0\" in the registry paths to "\12.0\"

How to control the display of the Outlook system tray warning balloon for network warnings

The registry value controls whether the warning balloon is displayed for network warning messages. To control the display of these warnings, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Run, type regedt32, and then click OK.

Expand the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Display Types\Balloons

Right-click Balloons, point to New, and then click DWORD value.

Type NetWarn(REG_DWORD), and then press ENTER to name the new value.

Right-click NetWarn, and then click Modify.

Click Decimal in the Base area.

In the Value data box, type one of the following:

Type 1 if you want to display warning balloons for network warning messages. This is the default behavior.

Type 0 if you want to suppress balloons for network warning messages.
