morganw Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Hi, The main server here is unstable with one drive in the RAID array having it's access light stuck on every now and again (would normally happen while copying files). This would sometimes lead to the server going slowly or rebooting. I ran a consistency check overnight and it stuck at 60%, the drive shows Media Error : 32 under the MegaRAID BIOS console. Should I be 1) Trying to rebuild the drive through the MegaRAID BIOS console 2) Waiting for a replacement drive, then build the new drive into the array 3) Doing something else In my my mind Media Error means the drive is faulty, the array isn't healthy so I can't run this server today, but that means no DNS, majority of file storage, and pretty much everything else usefeul. Help / advice appreciated. Morgan
morganw Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 Currently running with the drive removed from the array.
cookie_monster Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I would get a new drive ASAP and then rebuild the array. If the other drive turns out to be ok you can use it in a less critical system you don't want any suspect drives in your servers.
whitenight639 Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 What kind of RAID are you running and over how many disks?
morganw Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 RAID5 over 5 drives. It seems to be stable running on 4 drives but that the consistency check couldn't complete, is it normal for this not to complete if one drive is damaged?
morganw Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 All fine now, it must have been a drive fault but it didn't have a warning light, siren, or anything like that. Just made everything start to hang and crash.
