It is not supported no. Although people have got the remote agent to work, but it was is very hit and miss. It wont work as a media server at all

If you want it for 2008 R2 you will need Backup Exec 2010.

This will be an interesting phone call tomorrow when I phone up to see why I've been sold it then....

They might be getting mixed up

Sever 2008 = Works fine

Server 2008 R2 = Doesn't work at all

Ah ok. Will see what they say tomorrow then.

At least I'm forwarned. Thanks.

One thing to note, generally you get a years maintenance with BE (or well its in by default but you can remove it unless your buying an upgrade lic) so they may not have miss sold as such if you get 2010 free when its released.

Nah, no upgrade that I'm aware of.

It's an OEM version (Quickstart I believe, will have to check when I'm back in tomorrow) included with a Dell Server.

Guessing I'm going to be up a creek then. :(

OS came from a different company, however the whole package (server and OS) was ordered through a reseller so will push them.

The client will work on 2008 R2 as they patched it, although you have to install it manually (from a very short file path). Getting the media server working on R2 is probably a lost cause.

I'm running it on server 2008 and it is really not a happy backup. Was sold the package by Dell and when the guy came in to set it all up for me was told that it wasn't compatible. Really not amused as it has taken me ages to even get it slightly reliable. Even now I am trying to get it backing up a bit quicker, 100MB/min really isn't acceptable. If anyone knows anything that may fix this it would be appreciated.

I was contacted by symantec about the 2010 upgrade but they only provide licence upgrades for licences purchased with support. For all of my extra agents and add ons I have to pay for new licences as Dell didn't think to suggest we get support on all these when we purchased.

I can confirm 12.5 (with the latest updates) does work at backing up a 2008 R2 server as a client but I'm not sure installing the media server on 2008 R2 would work. We have the media server installed on 2003 but backing up 2008 R2 servers.
