andy_whitlock Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Common problem possibly, but I've got several Netgear switches... gone through them all and enabled IGMP snooping on them all - a multicast session in FOG transfers about 5Mb/min. As a single host session the transfer rate is about 2.5Gb. Does anyone have any pointers for this... TIA
morganw Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I've (unfortunately)also got a switch infrastructure that is mostly Netgear, I could never get any kind of multicast transfer from FOG through any of them. I found that limiting the server to only image two clients at a time and then just letting them queue for unicasting was fast enough.
andy_whitlock Posted May 30, 2010 Author Posted May 30, 2010 How can i limit the server to 2 concurrent clients? I've found when doing lots of imaging - other machines that boot up hang for 5 or so seconds when checking FOG for their default boot file. This I need a 1Gb NIC putting in that server!
morganw Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Go to the 'Storage Management' section on the management interface, then click on 'All Storage Nodes', then you should see a default entry 'DefaultMember'. Click on that to edit it and then set the 'Max Clients' field to whatever you want.

steve-t Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 We have been testing FOG for the past month and multicasting has been the main issue. We also use only Netgear switches (most of them GS748T). Unicast works perfectly fine in our network environment. Multicasting basically brings our network to a halt when trying to multicast only 10 computers. We have tried turn IGMP on with no luck. We have found that only having the computers you want to multicast to connected to the switch, it works fine 4-5 GB/min. Once you add other computers to the switch (ones you are not multicasting to), the speed drops to 30-100MB/min, bringing our network down. After a month of testing we are about through with getting multicasting to work.
hyb80 Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I have just got Multicast up and running and happily had 4-5 machines multicasting at a rate of 400-500mb/min but now with no change in equipment when imaging more than one computer via multicast the speed drops to 6.5mb/min. I have no idea why it is doing this. I am going to check the connection speed of my FOG lan connection as it should be a GB card.
hyb80 Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Update, was connecting at 100mbps not on GB and seen the multicast transfer rate increase 10fold to an amazing 40mib-min which would take about 8 hours to image. ...scratches head
