SIMS in VirtualBox/Virtual PC 2007 - Can't run Exams Module?

Has anybody else tried this? I get the below error message (and before somebody asks, yes I am logged in as administrator )

What's the VM? is it win7? i'm having permissions issues with that even when i am administrator....

I've tried it in both Windows Virtual PC 2007 & VirtualBox (thinking of trying to find a trial of VMWare to try it on).

The OS on the VM is WinXP (as is the host)

shouldn't matter who your virtual host is, vmware server is free and easy to manage as it sits on top of your regular OS, but you will get a performance hit. i use it all the time. other than that, try esxi.

 

otherwise keep hacking away at permissions like it says. try local admin / domain admin, permissions on C, permissions on S. reapply all and take ownership... i'm clutching at straws as you can see.

Isn't there a simperms.bat that fixes all the permissions for the legacy modules?

 

Or am I ridiculously out of date?

yes there is but it's moot if da man is logged in as admin. unless basic permissions aren't applied even for the admin account, which was kinda what i was floundering at earlier.

I'll keep hacking away at it and report back if I succeed (I know nobody else asked, but you never know when somebody might!)

 

@Domino: hadn;t thought of simsperm, tried it but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem, I'll keep trying...

a fresh install is worth a try. not sure how virtualbox etc work, but if you have a pre-sims install snapshot, try again, or start totally from scratch. occasionally, that rights what once went wrong, even if we never find out why.

 

you could also try a P2V conversion, and see if that works.
