Hello,

I wa just wondering how we can write a script in SIMS.

I was asked to write script in Sims about -

taking register and

sorting home page to train the staff

any help appreciated

What should the 'script' do?

Looks like what you're after is some instructions on how to configure the home page and how to teach staff to take the register?

You can't write scripts in SIMS I'm afraid, but I agree with kmount, this sounds more like 'how to' instructions are needed than a script anyway.

I have seen one successful script written for SIMS in VBScript, it just sent the neccessary keys to SIMS to control it, but it's not a fool proof way of doing things and I wouldn't recommend your average staff member use it...

SIMS' CommandReporter utility will allow you to extract data from SIMS for use in your own external scripts.

I have a couple of scripts that i've written, one publicised see earlier post with link. But, i think what you really want are instructions for the users, in which case, your LA will or should provide some instructions either directly or via the local SIMS Support team.

Whether or not you are supported by Capita direct, you should be allowed to set up a SupportNet account and access all the free resources that Capita have available. I do believe that there was an LA that didn't like (didn't allow?) this, but you should be fine.

Go to :

http://support.capitaes.co.uk/newlogin/login.asp

and register if you don't already have access.

Next you can download some QRS - Quick Reference Sheets. These are provided periodically by Capita for new features or for updates to old ones. They are even posted out to Capita supported Schools, not sure about others, but you can always download the pdfs and print them yourself. You coud also make your own instructions based on these.

Once you are logged in, on the homepage there is a search box, just search for "QRS" and you'll get a huge list. I'll attach some for now, but you should get an account and download your own.

Another thing you could look at doing is making training videos, i've done this for things like running reports, using a program such as Macromedia Captivate. Microsoft now has a free tool that can do this called Expressions, which will record actions you carry out on the screen. I find, a visual demo is much easier for people to understand than a simple handout.

There are some old ones here: vikpaw misc i haven't updated for a while because FTP is blocked from here and i have to smudge out names for all my new ones.

The best thing however, is to run small labs where the staff can try out the instructions straight away, nothing beats doing it yourself and motor memory.
