mrbios Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Just need to check something, if i rename a server do the shares automatically get renamed to corrospond to the new server name? possibly a daft question as i would have thought it does but i wanted to check to be sure (knowing microsoft if i didn't check it would do something like remove all the shares completely)
danrhodes Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Yes if you change the name of your server from Server1 to Server2 the shares will still be present but you will have to connect to them via the new servername eg \\server2\sharename not \\server1\sharename 1
mrbios Posted May 20, 2010 Author Posted May 20, 2010 Excellent, that's all i needed to know, thank you
buzzard Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 set up DFS that helps as you just have to change the name once in DFS then all GP etc points through the DFS root
