JamesMason Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I've just taken over a SIMS server and need to apply the spring update. Can anyone point me to some good docs on how to install updates do you just run them from solus? are there any recommended best pratices for applying them (other than the obviouse backup ) Any other general tips for managing a SIMS server appreciated. Thanks.
glennda Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I tend to just use solus - there is a PDF availiable here from Capita 1
Cache Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Have a look at Capita Education Support Services - provides the release notes and Capita's recommended way of updating using the ESS Upgrade Utillity now. 1

FN-GM Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Another tip, Make sure you have plenty of disk space on the drive your DB lives. It will backup the whole thing first. If you dont have enough diskspace it can mess things up some what. 1
Sarconia Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Make sure that everyone is kicked off SIMS before you run the upgrade, and don't try to login during. There's a tip for you to begin with! Ensure you kick them off by disabling all of the remote connections from the Server, don't just take their word for it!
