user coudnt open any program

hi one of our teachers laptop (dell latitude D830) coudnt open any program from her user log on. but its working fine as an admin account. it was working fin befoe. now e.g when i open word is says application not found. most of other programs is searching for the program to open with and opens the open with window. it looks strange to me. any idea?

Is it a domain login or local login? Try create a new account and see what happens. What malware protection are you using? Does this happen for ALL .exe files or just some?

Have you tried resetting the user profile - either that or the permissions on the C: drive have gone skewed or the user has been removed from a group which is giving permissions to the folder.

 

I am guessing this is a domain pc yes?

noo its not a domain pc. its a local login

restart login as admin and rename the local users folder to username.old and then get the user to login again and then it will recreate the folder for the profile, you can then copy my docs etc over.

 

You will have to restart as windows will still keep some profile files locked so you cannot rename the machine.
