During Nov of last year I developed some pain in my right arm and elbow - unable even to grip a cup of tea [ or beer which was even worse ] off I went to the quacks who said I had tennis elbow or something to that length. This made sense to me as I had just finished a stint of decorating. After wearing tight arm supports and pills the pain still persisted and has now started to really effect my work. Lifting and carrying equipment is a big no no and the other week I was even unable to get into work as riding my 650 was out of the question.

Yesterday my acupuncture sessions started and today I have noticed a slight [ if little ] improvement. It was only a 30 min session in which during that time my arm swelled quite a bit but did not cause me as much alarm as it did the person doing it !!

Acupuncture did help about 15 years ago for me after a bike accident on my knee but was wondering if anyone else had this treatment for tennis elbow or arm joint pain - and if so what were your results.

I've had it several times over the years. As a young sport-mad teenager I had it a few times to help with quick healing from dislocations and sprains, and had it a few years back as part of pain relief for a knee injury which got me medically discharged from the army. Getting the right person to do it is so important ... I've had good and some bad. I always find the first 2 sessions will really tire me out and I would never do any rigorous exercise afterwards ...

I am presently looking for a decent masseur and acupuncturist in the area as I start to get my weight under control and plan my next 12 months of exercise ... the joint benefits of a decent massage once a fortnight and targeted acupuncture sessions will be needed.

During one of the bad sessions (on a dislocated thumb) I had quite bad swelling ... and was down to a reaction to the ink used on my hand first ... I had a bad reaction to it. If you have ever had a reaction to ink or react badly to tattoos then you need to be careful. If they are going to mark your body make sure it is water based inks and not pencil either.

Best of luck with it ...

Thanks - this treatment is on the NHS so I am hoping to get as much as I can before I possibly end up going for private sessions. The other annoying aspect is that it's really limiting me in my job and sometimes I forget and end up lifting something I knew I shouldn't have.

At the moment it's annoying me [ most probably 'cos I'm talking about it !! ] but today was much better - hopefully after a longer session next week it will improve some more.

Have you tried some Reiki treatment also. It is great for pain relief. I find a lot of my clients report good results after a treatment. If you were nearer I would have given you a treatment. I have had acupuncture too and the relief in my back was brilliant.

I injured my back several times in my 20s, building bridges and moving a generator over some rough ground. About 20 years later after many different treatments I was recommended an osteopath. A large, strict German lady. She did a few things but her main recommendation was hot and cold compresses. 30 seconds each for as long as you can. It hasn't cured it but it's well over 90% better.
