ahunter Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Hi there, We have just had an apple network commisioned and integrated with our novell network. When a user logs in they receieve their home share and access to the shared media drive which mounts to the desktop using their username and password. If I load finder, underneath "places" there are various different locations, one being the users home folder. We would like to add the shared media drive to the list of "places" now I know I can drag this across to the sidebar within finder but I was wondering if there is anyway to automate this process for users when they login? I have looked in workgroup manager but couldn't find anything. Has anyone managed to do this? Cheers
HodgeHi Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I tend to use the Dock instead. When doing stuff like this Stacks is quite a good solution. The only other way of doing this is to create a default template profile and use this for each user. Stacks also works better in 10.6.
TomH Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 What method have you used to integrate into Novell , something like Prosoft Netware as this will determine you options. Tom
ahunter Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 What method have you used to integrate into Novell , something like Prosoft Netware as this will determine you options. Tom Hi, We have used Kanaka to integrate with Novell.
TomH Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Its been a while since i have used Kanaka i would say the options are : Include com.apple.sidebarlists with the appropriate link in the default home folder template folder, if Kanaka builds the home folder from this location then this will work for all new user home folders. Or use managed preferences with a local or open directory to apply the com.apple.sidebarlists to the client enforceing the setting upon users. Tom 1
HodgeHi Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 As far as I know you can't enforce the sidebar using WGM. I tried once and tried always, and often but it never took affect. Unless you know how to do it. If so please tell as I would love to know

Guest theeldergeek Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Hello, It is nice to have windows side bar gadget on your desktop. It will bring you most of the information to your desktop. This option is available from Windows vista. Same option is carried out to Windows 7 also. In windows 7 this option is disabled. To activate this option you have to right click on the desktop and click on the Gadgets. This facility is available only when you are enabled UAC in your Windows 7. What will happen, if you disabled the UAC control in windows? It will just disable the sidebar gadgets option. Then how to enable this option? There are so many ways to enable it. Thanks Run... run for the hills!

TomH Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 No problem, glad it worked ! Anyone working with live home folders can use a script to replace everyones plist with the required on as a fix until apple sort out the MCX varient of this.
