mattx Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 IMAP - it's supposed to be improved but on setting it up at work and home on my virginmedia [ old Blueyonder account ] - it constanltly hangs on synchronizing folders - I am not sure if this is a problem at Virginmedia's end or Google as they have moved over to GoogleMail. I never had this problem with IMAP on Outlook 2007 so to me it's certainly something within this new version. Yet another up-grade in which MS has broken something that was actually working !!
AngryTechnician Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Curious, haven't had any problem with mine... IMAP server implementations do differ, however, so it may be something specific to the server software yours uses.

It's certainly a MS problem - on my old Office 2007 PC it works fine - [ at home ] and did from work using Outlook 2007. On installing Office 2010 at home - it hangs, [ same settings, nothing has changed ] and after installing it on my work PC, the same. So there is something within Outlook 2010 that's causing this problem.
mattx Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 FYI - IMAP server closed the connection, Error Code: 0x800CCCDD Plenty of google hits on this which I think is the main cause of the problem I'm having.
mattx Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 I installed Thuderbird this evening - set that up and didn't get the problem - it's to do with NOOP command from outlook which you can't control or configure yourself - but there may be something that can be done the ISP end on the mail servers [ as it that is going to happen !! ] So It seems I may dump Outlook 2010 and go with Thunderbird and Lightening for a while as I can't keep having Outlook hang on me like it is. And yes I know you can change the timeout and even stop it running the sync but even clicking 'send/recieve' sometimes causes the problem.
mattx Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 Will try and exclude the my IMAP account from the automatic send/receive option as it's not required [ its a live connection ] for IMAP in the morning. Will report back on what happens.....
Dos_Box Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I'm having that issue too with Outlook 2010 using IMAP and our EduGeek Googlemail hosting. Outlook 2010 hangs, stutters or just runs dog slow. Not impressed if I have to go back to POP3 for a bit.

mattx Posted May 6, 2010 Author Posted May 6, 2010 This morning I turned off the automatic send/receive option settings within Outlook 2010 on my work PC [ default was set to every 10 mins ] & so far - [ an hour into the day ] it's running a great deal better. But knowing my luck I have now gone and put the kiss of death on it. E-mail is arriving and sending ok so fingers crossed.
Dos_Box Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Thanks for the info. Will do that when I get back in work tomorrow.
