Windows 7 added to 2003 domain no start menu

I've just added a windows 7 machine to my 2003 r2 domain.

 

I have 1 2008 R2 domain controllers and have done the ad schema upgrade.

 

When I log on to the win7 machine my desktop is redirected as on xp.

 

However the start menu is blank in that there are no programs listed, I don't redirect the start menu.

 

Any ideas on what to check?

id guess you have policies applied to your user(s) that hide common items on the start menu

Having similar issue this time Windows Server 2003 (non R2)DC

schema level 2000.

Win7 and Vista clients have empty start menu, have also recently noticed that XP clients with IE8 installed exhibit identical behaviour.
