Hi guys,

Was wondering if any of you knew of any decent Free \ Open source video editing software out there?

We have a day coming up where we want kids to try and create videos on various subjects but seeing as it's only "one day" don't really feel the need to go out and purchase any software specifically for it.

Any suggestions?

Windows Movie Maker isn't installed on these machines and well... past experience with it has been less than positive... so looking to use something else if possible.

Check out this thread here, as I was asking about photo & video stuff not too long ago, albeit for home use, but you could take a look and test a few ideas put forward.

Thanks for the links. Some of those will be definately be useful for me at home where I'm running Ubunto. Problem is all our PCs here are WinXP. Always lots of variety with Linux on the Open Source front just a pain you don't get the same choice with XP.

I'm using Wax (as it has an easy chromakey facility) for doing green-screen weather/newsdesk videos with Year 6s.

I wouldn't call it great but for simple stuff it does the job and it is free :)

VLC have recently released their movie maker software VLMC

It does warn that it is very much in it's infancy though so it might be buggy.....

Looks interesting - I didn't know they were exploring this until I read here. Will be keeping my eye on how this progresses, although I don't expect they'll have a reasonable stable beta version for quite some time yet. Still, got the start somewhere!
