dave.81 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 At the moment we have a website that was built 4ish years ago by an outside company, at the time it was a very flashy site and did look impressive. Now the world has moved on and I, and some others, dont feel it works anymore. The webdesign company used a template that is locked so we can only edit certain sections, if we want a new page we have to pay extra. Being an independant school it is our sales page more than anything. Now i think we would be better if we moved to a joomla style website and then intergrate a moodle VLE into this, currently we do not have a VLE. What combo are others using? Also who actually updates your sites? We have a PR women who does ares but dispite her best efforts does struggle.
andy_nic Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 At our school the senior tech updates the website and I update the VLE (RM KLP), well look after it. In the process of setting it up, you can assign different people to different areas for example Admin could keep the staff area up to date. 1
danbuntu Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 joomla, drupal and the other CMS are pretty user friendly if set up correctly so your PR woman should be able to update it - especially if you teach her and give her a good set of instructions. A lot of the CMS system will also include some kind of work flow. So for example PR could add a new article but it not go live until you've checked it for any glaring technical issues. 1
dave.81 Posted April 29, 2010 Author Posted April 29, 2010 This is my thinking that most CMS packages are straight forward to use with even a small bit of training. To have a system where we dont have to pay for editing the main page image would be a novel idea lol. Thanks for confirming my thinking.
