Yes ... EduGeek needs you ...

 

After working with several suppliers and companies we have a rough programme of what we will be offering advice and help in.

 

However ... we would like to have more 'real world' scenarios available for people who come to the stand. We have had a number of offers from members already about helping out and I will be contacting those people over the weekend to confirm that they are still available.

 

The areas of expertise we will be covering are:

Windows Deployment - RIS (and if anyone has tried WDS)

Windows Depolyment - rolling out software (MSIs)

Web Services - IIS/ASP/HTML

Web Services - Apache/MySQL/PHP

Linux - Server uses

Security - Email / Web filtering

Helpdesk - useful software / tools

Helpdesk - policies and procedures

VLE/LP - Moodle

VLE/LP - Sharepoint

There are so many other catagories that can be included so feel free to suggest others that you can help with.

How about a general 'Primary issues'?

 

The concept of IT Support in primary schools isn't one that is often addressed, but there are some of us out there!

 

There is a unique blend of issues, often concerned with trying to make ancient machines do the latest things, the perils of managing large numbers of standalone or peer to peer machines and often not having an Active Directory or Group Policy in sight!

 

Not to mention the manpower problems - the unfortunate have only the IT co-ordinator. The slightly more fortunate have a tech like me, working across 8 schools, but still only getting paid a 19-hour week!

I'd love to help if I can, but I can probably only get up for one day, probably Wednesday or Thursday, and would need some time to look around too, but I think I could find you a couple of hours...

 

Let me know if this is any good, but I'll have to see a little nearer the end of term whether I can swing it. If not, I guess I'll be coming on the Saturday...
