I've just noticed that when quoting a previous post, the line length gets shortened, but if the post doesn't have a quote in it, it goes across the full width of the screen. Again, no real issue if this is how it is, but it would make the threads look neater if they were all the same width. Edited by ZeroHour

I've just gone around various threads with quotes, and there's no issues here on IE8. I have just noticed, however, on particular threads that some posts were shortened, as per your screenshot, although there were no quotes used. Scratching my head, I right clicked the blank space and the Flash menu popped up. There was supposed to be an Ad displayed, but it wasn't being shown (filters or incorrect ad source at a guess). The issue you've shown in the screenshot - is that consistent throughout all forums, or is it there supposed to be an Ad in that blank space, like I've just found out?

Edit - added a screenshot. Truncated message in the first post due to blank space where an Ad should be.

Your both running ad blockers/firewalls that are preventing the advert there being shown. The spacing would only occur on first post of each page then.

The ads do work as I see them.

Ah yes, didn't think about ad blockers. In my defence, not all the blocking is being done by me, some is coming from my ISP.

One of my reasons for installing it, mind you, was to suppress the stupid signature images which some people are using. /runs off to add ZH to a list... :-)

Just to play devil's advocate for a moment, how "naughty" am I actually being by blocking the ads? I know that EduGeek get money from sponsors when I click through, however I'm fairly sure I've never bought anything via a banner ad - indeed I'm not sure I've ever even clicked on one - so unless you get money just from the ad appearing on my screen, you're in the same place with or without the blockers...

You can turn off displaying signatures here under Thread Display Options. This has been a god-send with the latest mega-large images some people are using :)

Figures. It'll be LEA filtering, I'm afraid. We don't run any additional blocking software, and as an Administrator I have full access out of our ISA server... but I get cut down at the other end by LEA's oppressive filtering. Looking at the first post of this thread right now I can see an ad in the space for Brother printers, so some ads get through. Not a lot I can do about it, though. I'll continue to support EduGeek with moral support, instead!

I'm still undecided on that. I did it for a few days, and found it helpful with the image-bloated sigs, "amusing" quotes, specs of home PCs, etc, but since suppliers often put contact details in their sigs, it meant I didn't realise I was reading a supplier's post and not a user's one, which can sometimes make you read the post in a different light! I may well stick with displaying the sigs, and manually ad-blocking the images.
