Afternoon folks ... this is across the whole of EMBC but I am mainly aiming it at Northants folk (email has already been sent around).

A letter will shortly be going out to a number of schools about DNS.

EMBC and Synetrix have analysed which schools are still using old (pre-transition) DNS and this will be completely retired at the end of this month. As a result EMBC are sending out information letters to schools to say that this is your last chance.

Please make sure that your DNS points to 92.43.65.1 and 92.43.65.2.

The old settings of 213.249.157.16 and 213.249.157.17 will be removed on 26th April 2010.

If you have any questions please contact me. It is not expected that Synetrix helpdesk would have to talk each individual school through changing DNS settings, but that tech support / support provider will do it.

Yep, but other authorities might be ringing each school individually (and have done in the past) but I am doing some quick broadcast messages. I'll update the original message a bit.

Thanks for this - I run a few feeder schools and hadn't heard anything about this.

The first I knew about it was an email from the LEA last week telling me which IP addresses were using the old DNS server addresses.

Warning folks (and a note for Grumbledook) - the letters don't appear to warn about all servers, for instance a couple of letters I've seen have only warned about my curriculum servers but not the admin. (Thankfully no big deal here though, had both the old and new DNS forwarders in the rotation) So just make sure you check *all* servers on site.

A quick bump on this ...

The TCR is approved and going ahead at 1600 on 29th April 2010 ... Just about to reschedule my Friday morning meeting to be free, gotta stick a voicemail message with instructions to change the DNS on my mobile and then hope all you good folk have a good day!
