Emailing Zip Files that are password protected

Our exams officer is trying to send a zipped file that is password protected, we are on EMBC/synetrix and the filter doesn't allow it and stops it. I'm assuming that other schools have to do this the exam board is AQA.

 

How do you get around this?

 

I've put a call in to the helpdesk, they inform me to let them know the senders address and the destination address and they'll allow it through. I've just got and email from the exams officer saying it can't be delivered:mad:

I've always setup a SFTP server for this kind of thing - much easier to give them a URL, username and password and let them get it themselves

 

Email systems are really no good for file transfers, what with varying firewall rules/size limits/security policies...

This is how the exam board want the file, I've said can't we just 7zip it up this works but they insist it needs to be a .zip not a .7z file because they can't open a .7z(don't go there)

Is it the zip that is password protected or the file within it (or both)?

 

Can you put the passworded zip into a non password zip to get round it?

The zipped folder needs to be password protected. I'll try zipping the zip file up see if that sneaks through:)

IIRC, when we had this problem we pointed out two things:

 

1) Personal webmail is allowed and people can send files using it should they wish to do so.

2) If an encrypted file passes through the official system, at least there's a record of it, which doesn't necessarily exist in 1).

 

Exams officer hasn't had any problems since.

 

This is a "your rather circumventable technical measures are affecting our ability to operate, please fix asap" issue.
