sacrej Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 (edited) Hi Guys, Just discovered a problem this morning with our site this morning: Ryde High School Languages and Arts College @Ryde High School When you open it up in browser versions prior to IE8 you get a white page with the yellow toolbar at the top blocking a file download, the file download is actually the previous name of the websites directory (rydetest) which has now been renamed to 'ryde', the file is about 22bites and seems to be just a null file, but its stopping our site from loading. All the domains point to the 'ryde' directory in our hosting panel, you can see that the two other address Ryde High School Languages and Arts College @Ryde High School & Ryde High School Languages and Arts College @Ryde High School load fine. any suggestions? edit, when I click on pages on the site I now get 404's (on all domains) i'm just wondering if this is something to do with SEF or temporary cache Edited April 14, 2010 by sacrej
LosOjos Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I don't have IE7 on this machine, but does this problem occur on all IE7 machines, or have you only tried it on one?
sacrej Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 multiple, its trying to download the file 'rydetest' of an unknown file type. even though the file and directory dont exist on the server.
mossj Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 (edited) Maybe make the folder rydetest, and see what happens? Have you cleared all the tempfiles off the machine? Also assumming this is Joomla. have a look at your config.php (in the root) and see if anything in there is putting to the wrong place. p.s I don't get this on my machine, and it's IE7, XP Edited April 14, 2010 by mossj
sacrej Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 Yep, have checked all this and its still the same. what I have noticed is when I open the rydehigh.iow.sch.uk address on the offending pc's it quickly flashes up with rydehigh.iow.sch.uk/rydetest in the status bar.... could our ISA server be causing this? i'm really stumped.
mossj Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I would imagine it's something your machines or network has cached because I can browse your site happy as larry on IE7. p.s why is your 404 a commercial landing page? http://www.rydehigh.iow.sch.uk/fdhgfhggfdh
sacrej Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 I think its something to do with isa server 2004, if we connect through our proxy.rydehigh address it works fine, through our isaserver.rhsnet.local it tries to point to the old address which doesnt exist ie, it is still pointing to the internal web server which then forwards to the old non-existant page. have tried turning http cache off and then back on but no luck there....any suggestions?
ZeroHour Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Check you dns, is your internal domain name rydehigh.iow.sch.uk per chance? if so it wont work internally until you manually make an A record to the external ip. As for the 404 page, that raises serious concerns tbh as thats a very nasty 404 page.
sacrej Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 Our internal domain is rhsnet.local, looking into the 404 at the moment, hadnt noticed it as our ISA server was kicking out friendly ones internally....only see them if I connect through external proxy. and yes, it is a nasty 404 :/
sacrej Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 404 now fixed, its not flash but will do for now
ZeroHour Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Who do you host with? they are controlling it by default and its a bit of a joke they are tbh. I would beat them down for that junk. Do you get the correct ping when you ping your url when internal?
sacrej Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 cant ping 'cannot find host' can 'kind of' ping rydehigh.co.uk gives an ip but times out. have kind of inherited this network so dont know how everything has been setup host is 1and1....and yes I agree...its not good. I personally like heart internet
mossj Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I personally like heart internet I think a vast majority will scream csnewmedia.co.uk at you

I personally like heart internet I would expect the packets to drop out in most networks tbh, its more for the ip lookup. Does the ip mean anything to you? aka do you know what that ip was for that was returned?
